Homoeopathy
What is it?
Homoeopathy is a therapy that treats the whole person. It works by stimulating a person's own healing energies and is perfectly safe for young and elderly patients as well as pregnant women. It is an effective treatment for emotional as well as physical problems and will not interfere with any prescribed medication from your doctor. It's gentle, non invasive nature makes Homoeopathy an ideal treatment for pregnant women and health problems commonly found in children such as ear aches, asthma, eczema - it can also help hay fever, allergies, menstrual problems, digestive disorders and much more. Homoeopathy remedies offer an excellent and safe alternative to inoculations for conditions such as influenza and hay fever.
How does it work?
The first job of our homoeopath is to fully understand you and any medical condition affecting your life. After your case has been carefully considered, you will be prescribed a remedy, usually, but not always, in the form of pills, which are very easy to take and have a pleasant taste. They are non-toxic and non-habit forming. Patients often feel a sense of well being and optimism after taking a Homoeopathic remedy and it is perfectly natural for symptoms to appear a little worse for a short time - this is a good sign and shows the remedy is taking effect.
Our homoeopath Linda Lemmon is at the Sunnyside Centre every Tuesday for daytime and evening appointments.

Acupuncture
What is it?
Perhaps the most misunderstood form of complementary medicine. Acupuncture is a system of healing practiced in China and the East for thousands of years. One of the most commonly held fears surrounding Acupuncture is the use of needles. However the needles used are single use, disposables and are fine and solid rather than hollow. People turn to Acupuncture for relief from a whole range of ailments and medical conditions which might include anxiety states, arthritis, asthma, facial paralysis, menopausal problems (particularly effective for hot flushes!) and pain relief. It is also very beneficial for those trying to overcome addictions related to smoking, alcohol, food or drugs.
How does it work?
There are around 500 recognised Acupuncture points on the body, of which 100 are most commonly used. These areas may not be close to the part of the body where the problem exists. For example, although you might suffer from headaches, needles may be inserted into the foot or hand. After a thorough consultation, needles are inserted for a period of time up to 20 minutes, depending on the effects required. During treatment, patients commonly experience a heaviness in the limbs or a pleasant feeling of relaxation. Many people find that as well as relief from a particular condition, Acupuncture often leads to increased energy levels, better appetite and sleep.
Our Acupuncturist Kerry Cameron is at the Sunnyside Centre every Thursday for daytime or evening appointments.
