OSTEOPATHY
What Is It?
Osteopathy is a safe, gentle and effective form of manual therapy. It treats the body's muscular skeletal components - spine, muscle, joints - with techniques such as soft tissue massage, connective tissue stretching and the manipulation and mobilisation of joints.
Most people come to see an osteopath because they are in physical pain - backaches, neck pain and sporting injuries are the most common complaints that osteopaths treat. However osteopathy can help with a much wider range of conditions including: Breathing disorders like asthma; Pregnancy related problems; Postural strains; Digestive problems; Migraine; Neuralgia; Joint pain; Sciatica; Disc injuries; Ear, Nose & Throat problems; Whiplash injuries; Carpal Tunnel syndrome; Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
As well as providing pain relief, osteopathy can provide significant other benefits. Mobilisation and manipulation can have positive affects on the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems, helping to improve overall health. Many mothers-to-be find osteopathic treatment very beneficial both to reduce back pain during pregnancy and also to help prepare the body for birth.
Cranial & Paediatric Osteopathy
The cranial osteopath is trained to feel subtle movements that occur in the tissues, nerves and circulation system of the body. This gentle form of osteopathy is often the treatment of choice for conditions in babies caused by difficult or traumatic birth. This form of osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body. Conditions which respond well to this form of osteopathy include: Infantile colic; Teething; Head distortion; Disturbed sleep patterns; Feeding difficulties; Glue ear; Dental and jaw problems.
Visceral Osteopathy
Visceral Osteopathy is a gentle hands on therapy that locates restrictions or imbalances in or around the internal organs (viscera). These may have been created by trauma, surgery, inflammation, infection or emotional stresses. Conditions that often respond well include: Gastric Reflux; Breathing disorders; Irritable Bowel Syndrome; Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.
