Sports Injuries Massage
What Is It?
Sports massage is very effective in the treatment of soft tissue problems ranging from sports related injuries to aches and strains caused by activities such as working, lifting or gardening. Sports massage helps the body's natural healing process by encouraging the flow of blood to the affected area, thus promoting more rapid recovery.
For the athlete, Massage Therapy is also useful both pre competition, to aid warming the muscles and post competition to assist lymphatic drainage. Indeed, Sports massage is now regarded by professional athletes and coaches as vital in enhancing athletic performance, preventing injury and an essential part of a training regime.
Our Sports Injuries and Massage Therapist Clare Thomas M.Sc, B.Sc (Hons), who is an experienced runner and swimmer, is at Sunnyside every Tuesday for daytime and evening appointments.
Chiropody/Podiatry
What is it?
Chiropody/Podiatry is the care and treatment of the feet and includes diabetic foot care, the removal of in-grown toenails, callouses and corns and treatment for foot ailments such as planter warts (verrucae), athletes foot, sweaty feet, foot odour and dry/cracked heels. Bal Heer BSc, MChs is our State Registered podiatrist (chiropodist), who also works at a London based NHS hospital, and can deal with these problems quickly and painlessly to give immediate relief.
Our podiatrist is also skilled in biomechanical assessment and the supply of custom made orthotics, which can be of especial benefit to sports men and women. Most people have some form of foot fault but may not realise it until symptoms appear. The onset of pain may not even be from your feet - pain in the knees, hips and lower back can often stem from a foot problem. Orthotics in children help to correct and prevent further mechanical problems eg knee, hip and lower back pain. Bal works closely with all our osteopaths and sports injuries therapists to help correct these problems.
Bal is a member of the Health Professions Council
